Baby it’s Cold Outside

Eleven below zero this morning, with an unbelievable wind chill factor. A little too late to talk about “winterizing your home” (you should have done it already), but let’s talk about mitigating any damage that arctic like temperatures and high winds might have done.

The biggest problem that occurs during these times are from freezing pipes. When they thaw, it can present a real problem. You can stave some of this off if you let your faucets that might be in danger slowly drip. Yes, you may have wasted a little water, but think of the potential plumbing bills that you will not have to pay! Make sure that you leave your basement heated unlike this homeowner who saved a few dollars by closing all the heating registers in the basement. If your basement is uninhabited you can close some of them, but you need to make sure your pipes are afforded the opportunity to stay warm.

The Weather Outside

The weather forecast in Colorado Springs today? Well… miserable? And so, I was asked the question, “could I get my roof inspected?” Hmmm… 30-40 mile per hour wind, snow, a high of 9.

Can I give you an answer tomorrow, when the wind drops down? Honestly, I could do a home inspection today, but I think I would defer the roof until tomorrow. I would want to come back anyway and make sure I could safely and thoroughly check those areas that are a little more difficult when we are experiencing the extreme weather changes that the Rocky Mountains can bring. Many issues can be identified without walking around on a roof.
